Matt Pearson of MJP Studio is an Adelaide based furniture designer maker whose practice is focused on locally manufactured products, highly refined handmade pieces and limited edition conceptual designs for exhibition.
Pearson strives to create objects that are woven into the fabric of the family home. He explores how objects can support notions of home, identity and belonging, and looks at how our interactions with objects can inform our sense of home, and hopefully, enhance our lives.
Born in Sydney, Pearson moved to Launceston in 2011 to complete a Bachelor of Environmental Design with Honours at the UTAS School of Architecture and Design, majoring in Furniture. He then went on to complete the Associate program at JamFactory in Adelaide, under the guidance of Jon Goulder. Matt has consistently sought a hands-on approach to his design practice, through which he has established a sound understanding of materials and a familiarity with the industrial and technological processes that enable efficient production.
