Gray Hawk

Furniture, Homeware, Timber

Designer-maker Gray Hawk has been creating bespoke, limited edition furniture for over 40 years. His distinct aesthetic is informed by an Art Deco sensibility that is opulent in form and meticulous in detail. Richly hued timbers, such as Macassar Ebony and Redgum, lend each of his pieces a rich materiality, while the incorporation of glass, stainless steel and bronze adds visual dynamism.

Hawk comes from a long lineage of artisans that include shipwrights and guilders, and he aspires to one day be as proficient as his father, who was also a maker. He has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions throughout Australia and undertaken major public commissions, including the design and fit-out of the ceremonial courtrooms for the Federal Courts in Victoria Square, Adelaide. Hawk’s work is held in the public collection of the Art Gallery of South Australia.
