Dan Withey's vibrant and colourful paintings depict comic moments, yet beneath the light-heartedness there is an investigation of modern day society such as consumerism, the environment and freedom. He is inspired by every day life and aims to 'squash' all of this experience into his paintings, continually jotting ideas and sketches in a journal that is always with him. Currently working with acrylics, Withey aims to extend into oils, but this is still a long way off as he focuses on a demanding schedule of solo and group exhibitions.
Withey was born in Birmingham England. In 2004 he immigrated to Australia and studied a Bachelor of Visual Communication (specialising in Illustration) at the University of South Australia. Upon graduating in 2007 with the Design Institute of Australia’s student of the year award, Withey decided to transition into a career in Visual Arts. Since this time he has had over 20 successful solo shows.
